Kips Bay Decorator Show House 2026
On the fifth floor with the last of the townhouse’s original windows is Peter Dunham’s refuge: The Guest Bedroom. His newest linen print, a multicolor called “Jacob’s Stripe,” envelops this hideaway, upholstering the walls and on contiguous window treatments made by The Shade Store. "In a north-facing room, I wanted something that would absorb sound and feel cozy without being cloying. And, most importantly, I needed a good backdrop for art.”
Dunham established one area for sleeping and one for reading and relaxing. He found a vintage, hand-crafted iron four-poster bed and paired it with an antique English textile for the headboard. On the wicker bedside tables from Dunham’s Hollywood at Home collection, Dunham made custom lampshades from a vintage Japanese obi for the lamps by ceramicist Natan Moss.
In the sitting area, a vintage sofa in green velvet from Kravet and trimmed in Samuel & Sons fringe captures the whole width of the room and complements the flower paintings by artist Konstantin Kakanias.
Adding layers of art, textiles, materials and combining design styles is a Peter Dunham signature. “Using a mid-century sofa, a gutsy Louis XVI armchair, and modern French black marble cocktail table on top of a beautiful, early Khotan carpet from Marc Phillips gives the room the tailored, eclectic vibe intended to bridge the distinguished, landmarked exterior and the modern interior architecture.”
This year’s location hits close to home. Dunham lived in Greenwich Village for more than 10 of his 15 years in New York. “I still think of this block as the center of the world,” Dunham says. “When the opportunity arose to participate in a historic house in the nexus of my New York experience, it was too good to pass up.”
The Show House is open from September 15th through October 13th.
